Screentake is made by Bitzag LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what the app does with your data, what this website does, and what rights you have.

The short version: Screentake collects nothing, because it sends nothing. There is no account, no analytics and no cloud. Your recordings are files on your Mac. The only thing the app ever talks to is the App Store, to find out what Screentake Pro costs and whether you have it.

1. Data stored on your device

Everything you record and everything you edit stays on your Mac. Each project is an ordinary folder — in ~/Movies/Screentake unless you point Screentake somewhere else in Settings — holding your video and audio files, a small JSON file describing your edits, and regenerable caches. You can browse, move, copy, back up and delete these like any other files.

We have no access to any of it. There is no server to upload it to, no sync, and no account it could be attached to. Deleting a project, or deleting the app, removes that data permanently.

2. What Screentake does not collect

The app does not collect or transmit:

Account credentials or login information — there are none, and the app never asks for an email address
Your recordings, screenshots, audio, camera footage or anything derived from them
Usage analytics, feature telemetry, crash reports or diagnostic logs
Advertising identifiers, device fingerprints or location data
Your contacts, calendars, files outside the projects you create, or anything else on your Mac

Screentake contains no third-party analytics SDK, advertising SDK or tracking framework of any kind.

3. Permissions, and what each one is for

macOS asks your permission before Screentake can do certain things. Each grant is yours to give and to revoke at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Screen & System Audio Recording — required. Without it the app cannot record anything, which is all it does.
Camera and Microphone — optional, and only used while you have them switched on for a recording. The camera is written to a file inside your project, the same as the screen.
Input Monitoring — optional. When granted, Screentake records where the pointer moved and where you clicked while a recording is running, along with the shape the pointer had on screen. That is what automatic zoom is steered by, and what lets the editor draw a cleaner pointer than the one baked into the picture. These samples are written into your project on disk beside the video and go nowhere else. Screentake does not record what you type. Without this permission the app simply records the pointer into the picture instead, and everything else works as before.

4. Payments and subscriptions

Screentake Pro is sold and billed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see, collect or store your payment details, billing address or Apple Account.

To show you the price and to know whether exporting is unlocked, the app asks Apple’s App Store service about your entitlement. That request goes to Apple, not to us, and all the app ever learns is the price in your local currency and whether this copy is entitled to export. This is the only network request Screentake makes. Apple’s handling of it is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

If you use Family Sharing, Apple tells the app that an entitlement applies; it does not tell us who is in your family.

5. Analytics and tracking

Neither the app nor this website uses analytics, cookies, advertising networks or third-party tracking of any kind. We do not know how many people installed Screentake, which features they use, or whether they opened it today.

6. This website

screentake.app sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts. The one external request it makes is for the Inter typeface, served by Google Fonts; that request tells Google your IP address and is governed by Google’s privacy policy.

Our web server keeps standard access logs — IP address, page requested, timestamp, user agent — for security and troubleshooting. Nothing is built on top of them, they are not used to profile anyone, and they are rotated on a short schedule.

There is no mailing list, no sign-up form and no contact form. Writing to us by email is the only way to reach us, and we hold your address only for as long as it takes to answer you.

7. Data security

Because Screentake stores everything locally and transmits nothing, the security of your recordings is the security of your Mac: FileVault, your account password, and your own backups. We recommend keeping all three in good order.

The app is sandboxed and signed, and it is distributed only through the Mac App Store, so what you install is what Apple reviewed. Its one network call uses HTTPS, as Apple’s frameworks require.

8. Third-party services

Screentake relies on exactly two, and neither receives your content:

Apple App Store — for distribution, subscription billing and entitlement checks
Our web host — for serving this website, which the app never contacts

We do not share your data with third parties, because we do not have any of your data to share. We have never sold personal information and will not.

9. Children’s privacy

Screentake is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age. Since the app requires no account and collects no personal data, there is generally no children’s data in existence to manage.

10. Your rights

Your data lives on your own Mac, so you have complete control of it at all times: you can view, edit, export and delete any of it in the app or in the Finder, without asking us and without our being able to prevent it.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA to access, correct, delete or port personal data we hold about you. In practice we hold none, other than a web-server log entry and any email you have sent us. Our legal basis for those is legitimate interest in operating and securing the website and in replying to correspondence. Our servers are in the United States. To exercise any right, or to ask what we hold, write to support@bitzag.com.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, so there is nothing to opt out of.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date at the top. Anything that changed what leaves your Mac would also be described in the release notes, because it would be a change to the app and not merely to a document.
